THE RVA STREET ART FESTIVAL HAS GONE NUTS!
SEPTEMBER 22-24, 2017
HEADQUARTERED AT the iconic DIAMOND AND TRANSFORMING RICHMOND"S NEXT GREAT NEIGHBORHOOD. A THREE-DAY CELEBRATION OF ALL THINGS Richmond LIKE WE'VE NEVER SEEN BEFORE!
The RVA Street Art Festival showcases amazing local and national artistic talent and revitalizes communities in need of some color and creativity.
The focus of the RVA Street Art Fest three-fold: supporting youth art education, discovering local talent, and bringing life to our beautiful city.
Watch art - and a baseball stadium - come to life when the RVA Street Art Festival returns September 22-24, 2017. The 4th edition of the RVA Street Art Festival will take on its biggest canvas to date this fall -- at The Diamond. Partnering with the Richmond Flying Squirrels, the RVA Street Art Festival will turn Richmond’s iconic baseball stadium into a canvas of mixed-media art – including painted murals, projection lighting, landscape art, stairwell art, drone art, and other forms yet to be identified.
This unprecedented partnership will offer the community a chance to watch and participate in the live art transformation of The Diamond that will feature local, national, and international artists. This year’s festival will also include a concert series, food and beer trucks and creative activities for children and adults in the parking lot around the stadium.
The RVA Street Art Festival’s mission is to support arts education for children through community based events. Through these initiatives, we are focused on discovering and showcasing local and national artistic talent and revitalizing neighborhoods in need of creativity and love.
This is a festival unlike any RVA has ever seen and will feature:
- Dozen of local and national muralists
- Sculpture and environmental design
- Stair muralists
- Drone art
- Music by local and national artists
- Celebrity appearances
- Projection art
- Street Art-influenced Flying Squirrels merchandise
- One-of-a-kind activities for children
- Street Art Market, Food Trucks & Local beer
“This is one of the most unique canvas’ I have ever seen and the possibilities for creativity are endless. This takes the transformational power of public art to the next level,” noted artist and organizer Ed Trask.
“I have been coming to this site to watch baseball since I was 6 years old when it was Parker Field and I was here the day this stadium opened,” said Jon Baliles, one of the organizers. “It is an absolute thrill to now have the opportunity to bring some of the best artists and creative minds in Richmond and beyond to transform the Diamond into a unique, artistic jewel.”
“The Squirrels have been such an integral part of the community the last seven years,” said John Mills, one of the festival organizers. “They’re in the business of making memories and by bringing the creative and baseball communities together in such a fun way, we’re sure to create an experience that Richmond won’t forget.”
The leadership of the Flying Squirrels are also excited about the partnership.
“We are extremely excited to team up with a great event and people involved with the RVA Street Art Festival.” Said Todd “Parney” Parnell, Vice-President & COO of the Flying Squirrels. “This is another non baseball event at the Diamond and shows that we continue to do new, different, fun and impactful things that help people in our great community make lifetime memories 12 months a year in RVA. We are grateful for the committee approaching us and can’t wait to feel the positive energy with this awesome and one of a kind event at the Diamond.”
Chuck Domino, the Squirrels’ Chief Executive, added “This will be an incredible opportunity for the Squirrels. It’s going to help bring new people to our ballpark and help grow our charities supporting renovating inner city baseball diamonds in underserved communities.”
